Velocity Bike Trail

July 13,2019 | By Sovereign Associates |

Looking for some extra motivation to get active this fall? Look no further than Velocity: Columbia’s Ride to End Cancer, an event to raise funds for Columbia’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. Velocity is offering riders the chance to participate in a fully supported biking trail starting just north of New York City in Harriman State Park and culminating at Columbia University. Velocity is also offering riders four different starting points where riders will merge onto the main trail to accommodate for differences in cycling experience or ability.

The first of these starting points is the 62.5-mile Silver Start located near Harriman Park, followed by the more scenic 45-mile Gold Start in Mahwah, NJ at Mindray North America Corporate Headquarters which allows riders to enjoy the beauty of towns such as Chestnut Ridge and Woodcliff Lake. Next is the 25-mile Green Start in Orangeburg, NY at Dynamic Productions that transverses Bergen County, NJ, and lastly the 10-mile Blue Start which begins in New Milford, and crosses over the George Washington Bridge with majestic views of the Hudson. Each start area serves as a rest area for bikers already on the trail with snacks and refreshments at each location. At the end of the trail is the Finish Line Festival at Columbia University where riders can celebrate their ride with food, music, and fun activities.

If you are not a regular cyclist and worried about not being able to complete the trail due to lack of experience, Velocity offers training every weekend leading up to the race beginning July 20th. If you can’t participate in the ride, you can also get involved by sponsoring a start area or ride gear, or by simply donating to the cause. For more information on how to register and any other questions visit https://www.velocityride.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=cms.page&id=1006. Good luck!
