The Studio Museum in Harlem
The Studio Museum in Harlem is another amazing place in Northern Manhattan that celebrates a culture and shares their art and ideas with the world. The New York Bank gave local artists a space in 1979 for local artists to share their work. The museum was founded by artists, activists, and philanthropists who wanted to use their art to educate people about the African-American experience. It was the first museum of African or Latino descent to be recognized by the American Alliance of Museums, proving it’s influence nationally. However, the museum has also received international acclaim and artists from around the world try to get into the Artist-in-Residence program.
The Artist-in-Residence program is what makes this museum studio-like. They cultivate natural talent and produce some of the most renowned artists worldwide. The goal of the museum is to create a bridge between African artists and people from various backgrounds. Art is a great way to share your view of the world and the way you perceive it.
