THE POWER OF PLANTS
by Annie Hawkins
Is it possible to look at a beautiful plant and feel bad? I say no, because whenever I look at a plant I feel a positive shift in my energy.
Often when I have been looking at my computer screen for a while I turn my chair around to look at my plants.
They make a difference. When I wake up and the first thing I see is light hitting something green, that lifts my spirits.
When you’re out and about and you have time, stop in a plant store to look around and you might see a nice change in your outlook. Or bring a plant home tomorrow.
You can’t go wrong giving a plan as a gift. Even someone who feels they have no plant skills at all can have an easy time of it with a “snake plant” a “ZZ” plant or even a “ponytail palm.” And you can find them everywhere.
Here are some resources I have used during my life with plants:
1. Wirecutter: I Paid Less Than $50 Total for My 57 Houseplants. Here’s How.

2. “Wild at Home” by Hilton Carter is the first of his 3 beautiful yet practical books on filling your home with plants. I call him the Michael Jordan of plant care.
3. “Grow in the Dark: How to Choose and Care for Low-Light Houseplants,” by Lisa Eldred Steinkopf.
4. The Sill, https://www.thesill.com, an online shop for plants and accessories, whose tag line is Plants Make People Happy.
