If you want to try something a little different this fall, I have just the right activity for you. The Annual Medieval Festival! Held in Fort Tryon Park and spreading all the way to the Cloisters, this festival is one of a kind. The festival began over 30 years ago and has added immensely to the culture of the city. With the Cloisters Museum being focused on medieval culture, art, and history, it seems appropriate to have it be the center piece for the Medieval Festival.
The entire Fort Tryon Park is decked out to look like it came from a medieval story book. The vendors, actors, singers, and all personnel will make you wonder if you’ve gone through a time machine. Upon arriving to the festival all guests will be greeted with music, dancing, magic, and minstrels. And we mustn’t forget everyone’s favorite, the court jesters and jokers. People come from all over to be a part of this event. Many vendors sell their hand-crafted costumes and trinkets. Others sell unique food that would have been popular in the medieval age. What does this include? Well at the Triangle Pub you can find many fan favorites, including Turkey Legs, Corn on the Cob, Steak on a Stick, Pickles on a Stick (I guess forks weren’t a big thing back then…) and many other options.
The festival is a great way to spend a day dancing and laughing and just enjoying a different culture. It may sound silly to some people but it is truly a way to travel through time and experience a different era. Kids love it and have the option to see Puppet Shows and magicians all who gear the acts towards children. So, put on your princess dress and your crown and get to Fort Tryon Park on Sunday, October 1st 2017 to experience the festivities for yourself. Fare-thee-well, my friends!
