LABOR DAY 2023

August 28,2023 | By Sovereign Associates |

Labor Day is one of eleven federal holidays recognized nationwide by the United States Government. All non-essential federal government offices are closed on Labor Day.

Labor Day became a federal Holiday in 1894, evolving from its roots as "International Worker's Day. It is held the first Monday in September "to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the USA.

Labor Day is also called the "unofficial end of summer." It marks the end of the cultural summer season. Many people take their two-week holiday during this time, and some school districts resume classes. Fall activities and some seasonal sports begin about this time.

Celebrate Labor Day N.Y. style by joining the spectacular, exuberant West Indian Day Parade. During the seven-hour New York carnival, steel-pan and calypso bands and dancers in elaborate costumes march down Eastern Parkway. You won't want for island delicacies, with vendors selling homestyle island grub along the route in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The 2023 route has yet to be announced. In prior years, the parade started at Schenectady Avenue and ended at Grand Army Plaza.

The West Indian Day Parade is Monday, September 4, 2023 (Labor Day). Times TBA, but the march typically starts at 11 a.m.

The Labor Day Parade 2023 will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 10 a.m., starting at 5th Ave & 44th St.
