July 4th: Celebrate Like a Pro
It’s that time of year again! Time for sunsets over the Hudson, cracking a cold one with a buddy, dressing in head-to-toe red, white, and blue, and having snacks that match. While many people leave the city, it is one of the most fun times to be in the city. So many activities and so much to explore. No matter who you are or what you like, there is something for you. Are you an avid eater? There’s an entire contest for you. Do you love the 20s and want to dance the night away to Louis Armstrong? Well there’s a danceathon for you. Whoever you are, NYC July 4th events will provide something of interest to you.
Lincoln Center is offering their annual Midsummer Night Swing Danceathon where you can dance all night listening to classic Louis Armstrong, performed by David Ostwald’s Eternity Band. You’ll feel transported back nearly 100 years and lose yourself in the music and the energy. The event costs $17 in advance and $20 at the door. Just a heads up, they do not let bags onto the dance floor so the suggestion is to not bring one. However, if you must bring one, there is a bag check at the front which costs $3.
If you want something more focused on food instead of dancing, then Nathan’s Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest is the place for you. Join in and watch some of the world’s most competitive eaters chow down. After the contest, Coney Island is holding a July 4th beach party. They offer live music, booze, dancing, and fireworks. It’ll be quite the party out there.
Finally, there are many different options for fireworks and they are guaranteed to be some of the best you’ve seen. Macy’s puts on a 30 minute show with 60,000 fireworks and I’m sure it will be quite the spectacular.
